It looks like the trade off worked out well for both men as the much-anticipated showdown between Bill O'Reilly and Stephen Colbert showed strong ratings for both cable TV programs last thursday.
The two men took turns being interviewed on each others respective programs. The move pushed Comedy Central's "The Colbert Report" to its largest audience ever, 1.7 million total viewers, a rating which is up 42 percent over the series' 2006 average.
Fox News Channel's "The O'Reilly Factor," posted nearly 3 million veiwers several hours earlier at 8 p.m.
Interestingly enough, Colbert scored more viewers in the 25-54 demo, 929,000 to Factor's 746,000.
